MISSION VIEJO, CA— Californians looking to pursue associate degrees and certificates have reason to celebrate, especially in Southern California. A new study conducted by WalletHub, a leading financial services company, ranked 653 schools affiliated with the American Association of Community Colleges, revealing that Irvine Valley College (IVC) and Saddleback College, both part of the South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD), are among the best community colleges in California. From the state rankings, Irvine Valley College secured the number one spot, and Saddleback followed closely in ranking 5th.

The study analyzed institutions based on three key dimensions: cost and financing, education outcomes, and career outcomes. These dimensions were further broken down into 18 total metrics graded on a 100-point scale. With a comprehensive evaluation of 77 specific two-year institutions in California, WalletHub placed Irvine Valley College as the top community college in the state, scoring an impressive 67.48 out of 100. Saddleback College also ranked highly, scoring 66.36.

“We are incredibly proud of Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College for their exceptional rankings in this comprehensive study,” said Julianna M. Asperin Barns, Chancellor of the South Orange County Community College District. “These results underscore the dedication and hard work of our faculty, staff, and students who strive every day to achieve academic excellence and create pathways to successful careers.”

The WalletHub study highlights the strength of California’s community colleges, with the statewide system ranking 17th overall in the United States. Notably—Irvine Valley College’s top placement and Saddleback College’s strong showing reflect the high-quality education and student outcomes that SOCCCD institutions consistently provide.

“This recognition affirms our district’s commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education that empowers students to reach their full potential,” said Tim Jemal, President of the SOCCCD Board of Trustees. “We will continue to invest in innovative programs and resources that support our students’ academic and professional success.”
