SOCCCD BOT President Inmon Swears in New Student Trustee

MISSION VIEJO, Calif. — The South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD) Board of Trustees officially swore in Irvine Valley College student Eric Shin as the 2026-27 Student Trustee during its Board meeting held on May 18, 2026.

As Student Trustee, Shin will serve as the official student representative to the Board of Trustees, providing a critical student voice in discussions and decisions impacting students across Saddleback College, Irvine Valley College, and the District.

“We are excited to welcome Eric Shin to the Board of Trustees,” said Board President Carolyn Inmon. “Student trustees play an important role in ensuring student perspectives remain at the forefront of our work. We look forward to Eric’s leadership, insights, and contributions during the coming year.”

Shin is a student at Irvine Valley College and has demonstrated a strong commitment to student engagement, leadership, and advocacy throughout his time on campus. In his new role, he will collaborate with district leadership, trustees, faculty, classified professionals, and fellow students to help advance initiatives that support student success, access, equity, and opportunity.

“Eric represents the next generation of leaders who are committed to service, innovation, and strengthening pathways for students,” said Chancellor Dr. Julianna M. Barnes. “We are proud to have him join the Board and look forward to the perspective he will bring to the District.”

The Student Trustee position is elected by students and serves as a liaison between the student body and the governing board. The role includes participation in Board meetings, committee discussions, and districtwide initiatives that impact the student experience.
