Live@edu is a new e-mail system for students of Saddleback and Irvine Valley College. It is a partnership between the South Orange Community College District and Microsoft, using Microsoft’s Windows Live. Live@edu replaces our current student email system, Netscape Messenger Express. [back to top]
- Significantly increased e-mail storage (10 gigabytes compared to the current 15 megabytes).
- 5 gigabytes of Office Workspace storage for shared project work.
- 25 gigabytes of storage space on SkyDrive that allows access from any location with a web connection.
- Calendar feature for personal, academic, and student use (record appointments, share calendars, schedule meetings).
- Ability to synchronize contacts and calendars with Windows Mobile and iPhone systems.

No. You will keep the same email address. Mail sent to account@saddleback.edu or account@ivc.edu will go to your new Live@edu email account. Your outgoing mail and replies will also carry your Saddleback or IVC email address. [back to top]
Yes. Students need to login to MySite, click on the password link, and enter the required information. More information on changing your password to use Live@Edu can be found on the How to Change Your Password page. [back to top]

The easiest way is to login to MySite – then just click on the email link. No further login is required.

In order to use the complete set of features, and get the best possible experience from Live@edu, you need to use one of the recommended web browsers
Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) or higher for Windows Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 or higher for Windows or Mac Safari 3.1 or higher for Mac OS X.
Please note that even though these browsers are considered supported, there are still a few options which are NOT accessible from browsers other than Internet Explorer 7 or 8 - including accessing the Junk E-mail settings in the Live@edu mail system. No. But if you choose not to use the college’s email system, you still need to login to the college email to enter your forwarding address (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) at least once. If you are an existing college email user on May 22, 2010, your forwarding information moves automatically to the new system.
However, we hope you'll consider using Live@edu mail. The new mail system has some benefits that other services do not: (1) It identifies you as a student of the South Orange County Community College District. This is sometimes important, such as when communicating with course instructors who must be sure you are the person you say you are when discussing your grades or other protected information. (2) The collaboration features on Live@edu will facilitate group projects for classes and student organizations, (3) the other features are comparable or better than what other free mail services provide. Yes. The Netscape email server will still be in operation until December 31, 2010. You will be able to log into MySite and click on the “Old Email” link. This will allow you to read email sent to your account prior to the May 22nd cutover date. If you wish to retain this email, you must forward the items you want to keep to another email account. - After you sign in to your account through either MySite or directly from Outlook.com, click Options, then click Organize E-Mail, and then click Inbox Rules.
- On the Inbox Rules tab, click New.
- Under When the message arrives, select Apply to all messages.
- Under Do the following, select Redirect the message to.
- Select the address you want your mail sent to by double-clicking on it in the address book view. If the address you want to redirect to doesn't appear, you can enter the e-mail address in the To field.
- Click OK to save your selections and return to the new rule window.
- Click Save to save your rule and return to the Inbox Rules tab.

You can change to the college’s email system or to any other service provider of your choice. Official college e-mail (registration, grades, fee statements, etc.) will be sent to your saddleback.edu or ivc.edu account and forwarded automatically to whichever address you have chosen. [back to top]
You can access Sky Drive from any web browser. Go to skydrive.live.com and sign-in using your Saddleback or IVC mail Windows Live ID. (account@saddleback.edu or account@ivc.edu) and password. [back to top]
Live@edu has its own spam filters and virus protections. Messages sent to a college email address will be scanned and filtered automatically by Microsoft’s servers. Detected viruses will be deleted, and suspected spam will be placed in your Junk folder for you to review. It is important to periodically check your Junk folder to avoid missing a real message mistakenly marked as spam. [back to top]
