ABOUT THE DISTRICT
The South Orange County Community College District (formerly the Saddleback Community College District) was established in 1967 when community members voted overwhelmingly to form a college district in the southern area of Orange County. What began as one college serving 1,500 students has developed into a multi-college district with an enrollment of more than 43,000 students.
Today, the South Orange County Community College District (SOCCCD) includes Irvine Valley College in Irvine and Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, and is in the process of developing an Advanced Technology and Education Park and additional satellite locations. The District currently employs over 360 full-time faculty, over 900 part-time faculty, approximately 550 support staff, and 107 administrators/ managers.
The District and its colleges are governed by a locally elected, seven-member Board of Trustees. The trustees represent the rapidly growing population of the District that now numbers just under 1,000,000. The 382-square-mile District encompasses approximately 50% of Orange County.
