Kathleen F. Burke, Ed.D.

Dr. Kathleen Burke was appointed as the Chancellor of the South Orange County Community College District by the Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2018.  As Chancellor, Dr. Burke acts as the chief executive officer of the district, overseeing district-wide operations, including an $913 million budget, and nearly 4,000 employees and the district’s two community colleges: Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College, along with the Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP).

 

Dr. Burke previously served as the President of Los Angeles Pierce College where she managed an annual operating budget of $72 million, a general obligation bond project budget of over $650 million, a staff of 250 full-time faculty, 262 adjunct/associate faculty, 225 classified staff, 20 administrators and 20 classified supervisors. Prior to her employment at Pierce College, Dr. Burke served as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Los Angeles Trade Technical College; Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness at East Los Angeles College; Vice President of Academic Affairs at Los Angeles City College; Vice President of Academic Affairs at Los Angeles Mission College; Dean of Academic Affairs at East Los Angeles College; and as the Division Chairperson for Visual and Performing Arts at Glendale Community College.

 

Dr. Burke is active in numerous state and local organizations in support of community colleges. She was a member of the California Community College Chief Executive Officers Board (CEOCCC); the Community College League of California (CCLC); and the Advisory Committee for Institutional Effectiveness and Planning Initiative (IEPI).

 

Dr. Burke earned a Doctorate of Education in institutional management from Pepperdine University; a Masters of Art in art, with distinction from California State University, Northridge; a Bachelor of Arts in art history from the University of California, Irvine; a Bachelor of Arts in studio art, with emphasis in drawing and painting from the University of California, Irvine; and an Associate of Arts Degree in humanities from Glendale Community College.
