Nothing happens when you click on the Email link for your student email account in MySite.

This is most likely caused by your web browser blocking the opening of a new window. Please change your web browser settings to allow pop-ups from *socccd.cc.ca.us. More information about pop-up settings in various browsers can be found in the links below.

What are the requirements for using Office365 mail on the web?

In order to use the complete set of features, and get the best possible experience from Office365, you need to use one of the recommended web browsers

Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) or higher for Windows
Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1 or higher for Windows or Mac
Safari 3.1 or higher for Mac OS X.

Please note that even though these browsers are considered supported, there are still a few options which are NOT accessible from browsers other than Internet Explorer 7 or 8 - including accessing the Junk E-mail settings in the Office365 mail system. For more information on exactly what features are available in which browser.

Do I have to use the college’s email system?

No. But if you choose not to use the college’s email system, you still need to login to the college email to enter your forwarding address (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) at least once. If you are an existing college email user on May 22, 2010, your forwarding information moves automatically to the new system.

However, we hope you'll consider using Office365 mail. The new mail system has some benefits that other services do not: (1) It identifies you as a student of the South Orange County Community College District. This is sometimes important, such as when communicating with course instructors who must be sure you are the person you say you are when discussing your grades or other protected information. (2) The collaboration features on Office365 will facilitate group projects for classes and student organizations, (3) the other features are comparable or better than what other free mail services provide.

Will I still have access to my email in the old system?

Yes. The Netscape email server will still be in operation until December 31, 2010. You will be able to log into MySite and click on the “Old Email” link. This will allow you to read email sent to your account prior to the May 22nd cutover date. If you wish to retain this email, you must forward the items you want to keep to another email account.

How do I forward my existing mail to another email account?

  1. After you sign in to your account through either MySite or directly from Office365, click Options, then click Organize E-Mail, and then click Inbox Rules.
  2. On the Inbox Rules tab, click New.
  3. Under When the message arrives, select Apply to all messages.
  4. Under Do the following, select Redirect the message to.

It is important to periodically check your Junk folder to avoid missing a real message mistakenly marked as spam.
